Chicken Dill Soup: A Taste of Ukraine

Chicken Dill Soup: A Taste of Ukraine

I love recipes that have a memory attached to them. The kind of memories that are made, not only from the taste of the food, but from the experience you had the first time you enjoyed that food.

This recipe was made for me last year by a dear friend of mine, Irene Lopushinsky. As I walked into her house in Fort Saskatchewan, I could smell the aroma of the chicken broth and dill in the air. Immediately my mind brought me back to the little apartment I stayed at in Ukraine and the Russian family I lived with 8 years ago while I was volunteering in Kiev. I couldn't believe how quickly my thoughts brought me back to a morning so long ago, in a small quaint kitchen, eating breakfast.

My addiction: How I overcame an addiction to sugar.

My addiction: How I overcame an addiction to sugar.

Let's get personal for a minute, shall we? Over a year ago, I decided to give up eating refined sugars. I quickly came to realize that I wasn't just giving up sugar, I was giving up a life long addiction, a love-hate relationship with sweets. I quickly turned to healthy natural sweeteners for alternatives (honey, maple syrup, dates, etc.) which often brought back the same addictive behavior in myself. See these yummy little chocolate balls of deliciousness up there? Yeah, I could eat all of those in one day. I would feel sick after eating them, but I would do this because something much stronger than hunger was driving my actions.  "Addictive eaters can never stay on diets for long - NOT because they are WEAK or LACK will power, but because the food they crave can be as addictive as drugs or cigarettes." - Marissa Peers

Best Trail Mix Recipe EVER!

Anyone who knows me, knows that snack time is my favorite time.😍😍😍

I was at Costco the other day shopping with my husband (Adrian) and I came across this new organic trail mix called "Prana Trail Mix". It looked super tasty but was TWICE the price of the generic stuff! I already had some of the "Organic Prana Chocolate Bits" at home, so I decided to create my own more affordable version with the ingredients I already had at home.
